Assess the Risk - see the success!
The results are in – and Manitoba has seen the benefits of assessing the risk!
Just months after it wrapped up across the province, SAFE Manitoba’s Assess the Risk campaign has been declared the most successful program in the organization’s history.
When we launched the Assess the Risk interactive web contest featuring tales from the SAFE Hotel, we hoped to attract more than 4,000 people to the web series while increasing the number of young Manitobans who recognized the SAFE acronym (Spot the Hazard, Assess the Risk, Find a Safer Way, Every Day), boosting the number of those who internalize and apply the risk management model at work and ultimately reducing the number of workplace injuries suffered by Manitoba youth.
Today, our research shows we not only achieved our goals but surpassed them in many areas.
Our web statistics indicate over 4,600 people visited the Assess the Risk site during the contest period, their entries combining for more than 37,500 contest entries and over 25,000 webisode views.
According to an Assess the Risk web evaluation survey, half of those surveyed are now able to correctly define at least one of the SAFE Work steps while just under 30 per cent can now correctly define the whole phrase.
Of those surveyed, 90 per cent said they are more likely to look for hazards and unsafe situations in the workplace than in the past, while just under 90 per cent said they now consider safety before beginning activities while on the job.
While we will continue to measure our progress and success as injury rates are determined over the next year, we can confidently say Manitobans were willing to Assess the Risk and learned a few things while doing so!
