New agricultural codes a safety measure

The Province of Manitoba has implemented a new building code system for agricultural structures.

The new codes were announced late last month by Labour and Immigration Minister Jennifer Howard. The announcement separates agricultural buildings from all other buildings in the province in hopes that increased stringency will increase fire safety and reduce the number of hog barns lost to fire every year.

The new Farm Building Code will come into effect Nov. 1.
