Rights & Responsibilities

Safety is not a luxury or an added bonus - it's a legal right.

When it comes to workplace safety, workers, supervisors and employers all play different roles and have different responsibilities. But everyone has rights that they should be aware of - because those rights can mean the difference between taking a risk and taking a proper stance on unsafe practices.

Everyone working in Manitoba has the right to:

  • know about what hazards there are in the workplace and what precautions must be taken to avoid injuries from those hazards
  • participate in safety and health activities in the workplace, without fear of discriminatory actions such as discipline
  • refuse work that one reasonably believes to be dangerous to oneself or to others.
