SAFE Healthcare procedures now online!
Sample SAFE Work procedures for patient handling and moving tasks are now available
online!
The samples are available in three different formats, each allowing users to modify the procedures to suit the specific needs of their workplace.
The information found in the sample safe work procedures comes from a variety of Manitoba work sites, resources and professionals.
Although these samples are geared toward patient handling and moving activities in the personal care home setting, they can also be adapted for use in other settings.
In patient handling tasks, the injury hazards for workers and the basic steps for moving or transferring a patient are often similar from one work site to another. Making these samples available to health care facilities will help to save time and effort.
Rather than starting from scratch, each site can simply download and modify a sample safe work procedure according to the needs identified in the risk assessment performed at their facility.
Safe work procedures are required by law. The sample procedures available on the SAFE Manitoba website will help health care sites meet compliance with the requirements under the Workplace Safety and Health Regulation (M.R. 217/2006), and make it easier for managers, supervisors, educators and front line workers to work from the “same page” when it comes to expectations for patient handling tasks. As the name implies, SAFE work procedures are designed to help workers perform their tasks in a manner that reduces their risk of becoming injured.
